Mendiktisaintek Emphasises the Urgency of Character Building for Youth
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Brian Yuliarto, emphasised the importance of the high school period as a crucial phase in character building and readiness to face the future.
This was conveyed by Minister Brian during a visit to State Senior High School (SMA) 14 Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5), where Minister Brian is also an alumnus and once served as Chairman of the Intra-School Student Organisation (OSIS) at the school.
“The high school period is the most determining time, the most enjoyable time as well, and the time with the most friends, so younger siblings must make the most of it,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“Never tire of pursuing desires and aspirations. Never give up chasing dreams. If we keep pursuing, paths of ease will open up,” he continued.
On that occasion, Minister Brian also shared his life journey from a simple family to pursuing education at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
He emphasised the importance of respecting teachers and parents as the foundation of success.
“Mr/Mrs teachers are the best people on planet Earth. They are the ones who made me successful; everyone succeeds thanks to Mr/Mrs teachers, never forget your teachers. Continuously ask for prayers from parents; that is extraordinary energy,” he stated.
Minister Brian encouraged students to make learning a primary habit and to utilise the increasingly open opportunities for higher education, including access to scholarships at various universities worldwide.
He invited all students not only to focus on personal achievements but also to provide real contributions to society.
“As long as we benefit others, that is success,” said the Mendiktisaintek.
This visit is part of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology’s efforts in its commitment to building an outstanding generation that not only excels academically but also delivers real impact to society, in line with the vision of Impactful Diktisaintek.
SMA 14 Jakarta in 2026 successfully placed 21 students into state universities through the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) pathway, including 11 students who are recipients of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP).
This achievement underscores that economic limitations are not a barrier to achieving higher education, where this success serves as concrete proof that opportunities for success are widely open to all students with a strong determination to improve themselves.
