Mendikti Saintek: Prabowo Orders Universities to Assist in Managing Urban Spatial Planning

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) Brian Yuliarto revealed that the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has ordered universities to assist regional heads in urban spatial planning. Brian stated that campuses will provide help through studies and research. “So, the President gave directions on how faculties of planning and architecture in every campus can assist regional heads. Thus, the spatial planning and urban layout for each region, city/district, will become a practical site for students and a research area for lecturers,” said Brian at the Palace in Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026). As a result, he said, the Impactful Campus programme is expected to be realised. In addition, Brian mentioned that Prabowo also gave directions for campuses to help address housing problems. “So, of course, the Minister of Housing, Mr Ara, will coordinate, and we will contribute from the research side. Whatever can help facilitate overcoming housing problems,” he added. Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya revealed that the Head of State’s instructions were directly conveyed after a direct visit to residents’ settlements on the outskirts of the railway area in Senen on Thursday (26/3/2026). “President Prabowo immediately ordered the Minister of Housing via telephone because he was in Toba (represented by the Secretary General of the Ministry), the Minister of Public Works, the Director of Perumnas, and KAI (Indonesian Railways) as well as several related officials to build housing for residents still living on the edge of the railway tracks,” said Teddy on Friday (27/3/2026).
