Men Living in These Cities Are the Most Spendthrift: Includes South Jakarta - Padang
Adjusted per capita expenditure is often used as an indicator to measure prosperity, quality of life, and the purchasing power of the population.
The latest 2025 data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that metropolitan cities still dominate the list of regions with the highest expenditure, both for men and women.
High economic activity, concentration of modern service sectors, and substantial income in urban areas cause spending by residents in big cities to soar compared to other regions.
Metropolitan Cities Dominate Men’s Expenditure
For the male group, South Jakarta City becomes the region with the highest adjusted per capita expenditure in Indonesia, reaching Rp30.3 million per person per year.
In addition to Jakarta, this list is also filled with cities with high economic activity such as Batam, Balikpapan, Surabaya, and Bandung. This indicates that areas with industrial, trade, and modern service sectors tend to have higher male spending levels.
Women’s Highest Expenditure Not Exceeding Men’s
Meanwhile, for women, South Jakarta City also holds the first position with adjusted per capita expenditure of Rp25.5 million per year. Although it is the highest for the female group, the figure is still below the highest male expenditure of Rp30.3 million per year.
Similar to men, the highest female expenditure is also concentrated in metropolitan cities. However, Yogyakarta City and Denpasar also enter the list, reflecting the strength of service, education, and tourism sectors in driving female consumption in those areas.
