Member of Navy caught for theft

JAKARTA (JP): A parking attendant at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) made a citizen's arrest of an Indonesian Navy member for alleged involvement in the theft of a motorcycle on Monday night.

The suspect, Second Pvt. Sujoko, is detained at Central Jakarta Police Headquarters.

Sujoko told the police that his accomplice was named Mustofa, who he identified as a policeman from National Police Headquarters.

Mustofa fled on the stolen Astrea Grand motorcycle.

Parking attendant Jayus Ruswadi, 40, said Sujoko and Mustofa were seen entering the parking lot on a RX-King motorcycle at about 7 p.m.

"While Sujoko parked the motorcycle and got a parking ticket, his friend waited at the entrance gate," Jayus said.

Seven minutes later, Mustofa rode to Jayus' parking booth on an Astrea Grand motorcycle and presented the ticket for the RX- King.

Jayus asked Mustofa about the discrepancy and the two argued.

"When I decided to call security guards, however, he (Mustofa) fled with the motorcycle," he said.

Sujoko then rode to the booth on the RX-King and told Jayus that he did not have a ticket because he was a member of the Navy. He showed his Indonesian Military (TNI) identification card.

Jayus was skeptical and arrested him.

An officer from the Central Jakarta Police confirmed the incident and said Sujoko was still detained.

"He'll be sent back to his unit after we finish our preliminary questioning," the officer said. (emf)
