Melia Purosani green globe certified
Melia Purosani hotel on Jl. Suryotomo was
declared Green Globe Certified last week after an
independent auditor from Australia, Richelen and
Associates, conducted an assessment on the hotel's
commitment to operating to the world's highest
environmental standards.
According to Richard Hooper of Richelen and
Associates, Melia Purosani is the first hotel outside
Bali that has been thus certified this year.
Nationally, it is the fourth Green Globe Certified
hotel after Bali Intercontinental and Bali Hilton
hotels, and Bali Tourism Development Center in Nusa
Dua.
"Of course, this is not an instant achievement for
us," Melia Purosani Green Globe team leader Dwijo
Harjadi said about the certification, adding that
before achieving the current status it had to struggle
for Green Globe Affiliate and Green Globe
Benchmarked status first, which it obtained in May and
June, respectively.
Green Globe Certified status is the highest status
issued by the Green Globe 21, an international
certification program for sustainable travel and
tourism. Green Globe 21 provides a certification
system that responds directly to the planet's major
environmental problems, including the greenhouse
effect, overuse of freshwater resources, destruction
of biodiversity, production of solid and biological
waste and social issues. -- JP
