Melia observes 'solidarity' month

YOGYAKARTA: Some 200 employees of Melia Purosani Hotel and its
general manager, Morten B. Anderson, took part on Thursday in a
community service event on Jl. Malioboro.

The hotel's public relations manager Atik Damarjati said the
event was actually parts of the Sol Melia Hotels and Resorts'
worldwide community involvement program -- September Solidarity
Month -- which is held in cooperation with UNICEF and the DHL
carrier company.

Through the program, she said -- and together with 13 Sol
Melia offices around the world -- over 220 hotels under the
management of Sol Melia collected donations by asking the hotels'
guests and business partners for a US$1 donation, to help fund
the elementary schooling of children of developing countries.

"Each of the hotels is also required to hold community events,
such the one on Jl. Malioboro," Atik said. --JP
