Washington (ANTARA) - Melania Trump is scheduled to chair a UN Security Council session next week, marking the first time in history that a sitting US First Lady has taken on this diplomatic role.

“Mrs. Trump’s leadership will mark the first time a sitting US First Lady has chaired the Security Council when members discuss the issues of education, technology, peace, and security,” the statement said, which was released on Wednesday (25/2).

The session, titled ‘Children, Technology, and Education in Conflict’, is scheduled to take place on March 2.

Melania will hold the gavel during the session as the US holds the Presidency of the UN Security Council. She will emphasise the vital role of education in promoting tolerance and global peace.

The session will be attended by representatives from member states of the Security Council, US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz, and international stakeholders.

The Presidency of the UN Security Council is held on a rotating basis each month by one of its 15 member states, in alphabetical order in English. The US will hold the position in March after the UK.
