Thousands of residents of Munggu Village in Badung, Bali, took part in the Mekotek tradition on Saturday (27/6/2026). The tradition is held during the Kuningan holy day as a means of warding off misfortune and paying homage to ancestors, symbolising the victory of Dharma (good) over Adharma (evil). During the ritual, a Hindu religious leader sprinkled holy water on a group of young men. The participants then united long wooden sticks into a tall, cone-shaped structure, with one youth standing atop the combined poles. Tourists were also present to witness the cultural ceremony.
