JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Ministry of Housing and Settlement (PKP) has set a deadline for completion of the subsidized housing project in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java. Vertical mass housing allocated specifically for Low-Income Communities (LICs), particularly factory workers in the industrial corridor, is targeted to complete all structural construction phases by August 2028 before being handed over to residents in phases. This move aims to secure housing certainty for workers while reducing daily commuting costs. Bekasi Regency is one of Southeast Asia’s largest manufacturing hubs, home to millions of workers who have long been burdened by high commuter logistics costs due to the distance between their homes and factories. As of end-May 2026, on-site physical execution remains on schedule per agreed timelines. Technical teams on-site are currently conducting initial pile driving to test subsoil bearing capacity before constructing the main structure. ‘Currently, construction has entered the test pile phase. Of the planned 8,600 piles, 1,836 have been installed. The government aims to ensure the subsidized housing project proceeds swiftly, accurately, in compliance with regulations, while maintaining quality for residents,’ said Maruarar on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. According to the masterplan, the project has undergone several strict key stages. Land clearing was completed in February 2026, followed by a ceremonial ground-breaking in March 2026. Following the completion of pile foundation testing, concrete structural work is scheduled to commence in August 2026. The space for this mega subsidized housing project is provided through an asset utilisation scheme that does not burden the state budget for land acquisition. All flats will be built on a 30-hectare plot of land, which is a pure donation from private corporation Lippo Group, divided into three strategic locations within the area perimeter. This massive development scale is designed to reduce the national housing deficit (backlog), particularly in the high-population-density Jakarta metropolitan buffer zones. Acceleration of this strategic project is monitored by a joint central and regional task force. Site feasibility reviews involve Deputy Head of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Management Agency Tedi Bharata, Acting Bekasi Regent Asep Surya Atmaja, and Lippo Group Chairman James Riady. Provision of basic utilities including clean water networks, electricity supply, domestic waste management, and integrated commuter bus transport is a key requirement demanded from private entities and local government.
