Mecca - Fifth President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri offered prayers for Indonesia while performing umrah ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. The PDIP General Chairwoman prayed for Indonesia to remain harmonious and far from division.

Megawati performed the umrah with her family at the Grand Mosque (Masjidil Haram) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday (14/2/2026). During the umrah procession, in addition to reciting the customary readings, Megawati also delivered special prayers recited during each round of tawaf.

Megawati’s family umrah was led by Ustaz Muhammad Hafidz Makmun, while Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi led the prayers.

In his prayers, Zuhairi prayed to Allah SWT to bless the path of democracy that Indonesia has chosen to bring prosperity to its people. He supplicated to God for Indonesia to always be granted wisdom and nobility.

Gus Mis, as Zuhairi is affectionately known, also prayed that Indonesia, rich in natural resources, would be able to deliver prosperity for its people. Pancasila was hoped to serve as the unifying force of the Indonesian nation.

“Bring prosperity to our people, bring us happiness, continue to unite us under Pancasila, under which we are determined to remain united despite our differences,” Gus Mis said, followed by Megawati and her family.

Additionally, Gus Mis prayed for Indonesia to remain united. Prayers were offered for the beloved nation to be kept far from division.

“Preserve the unity of our country, continue to unite us in brotherhood, keep us far from division and provocation,” Gus Mis said.

Megawati’s umrah group also prayed for the Indonesian nation to always find peaceful solutions amid the many conflicts in other countries. Megawati and her family also prayed for the Indonesian nation to always be blessed with abundant sustenance.

“Make our country fertile. Send down abundant blessings from the heavens for our people. Keep us from every division, no matter how small, O Allah, O the Most Merciful,” read the prayer of Megawati’s umrah group, recited by Gus Mis.

During this umrah, Megawati, who was present as a guest of the Saudi Arabian royal family, performed tawaf on the second floor. This arrangement was a direct request from the royal family for Megawati to perform tawaf and sa’i on the second floor for comfort and devotional focus. The decision was made given the crowded conditions at the Grand Mosque ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
