Megawati's Prayer During Umrah: May Prananda and Puan Be Harmonious, Strengthen Brotherhood
Mecca - Indonesia’s 5th President and PDIP Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri also offered prayers for her father, Indonesia’s first President Sukarno, during her umrah pilgrimage. Megawati also prayed for the well-being of her children, Prananda Prabowo and Puan Maharani.
Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia and PDIP DPP Religious Affairs Chairman (non-active) Zuhairi Misrawi led the prayers during Megawati’s umrah with her family. One of the prayers offered during tawaf was about Bung Karno.
“We are grateful to You, O Allah, that there is no longer any slander against our nation’s proclamator and hero, Bung Karno, after his good name was restored by the MPR RI,” said Zuhairi, followed by Megawati’s umrah entourage on Saturday afternoon (2/14/2026) local time.
Megawati prayed for Bung Karno to be made a dweller of paradise. She also prayed that the suffering and illness endured by the nation’s proclamator would serve as atonement for his past sins.
“Bung Karno inspired the Indonesian nation with Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika so that we could bring mutual cooperation to life and live in harmony with one another. We always believe that Pancasila, which Bung Karno extracted from the diversity of our nation’s cultural heritage, is the main pillar and strength of Indonesia Raya,” said Gus Mis, as Zuhairi is affectionately known.
Prayers for paradise were also offered by Megawati for her mother, Fatmawati. The PDIP Chairwoman described Fatmawati as a resilient woman who made great contributions alongside Bung Karno in Indonesia’s independence. Megawati prayed for all her mother’s mistakes to be forgiven and her deeds of worship accepted by Allah SWT. Megawati prayed for Fatmawati to always be blessed and for her grave to be made spacious.
Beyond her parents, Megawati also offered prayers for her children — M Prananda Prabowo and his wife Nancy Prananda, and Puan Maharani. Megawati hoped her children would always be kept free from illness. She also noted that both her children are intelligent individuals and prayed that their intelligence would benefit the nation, the country, and the party.
Megawati asked Allah SWT to bless the brotherhood between Prananda and Puan with love and compassion. She prayed for her two children to be close in brotherhood.
“O Allah, Lord who bestows mercy upon all humankind, unite them in harmony that pleases You, bless their brotherhood under a canopy of love and compassion that pleases You, shelter them in the mercy of brotherhood that You cherish, and strengthen their brotherhood as You strengthened the brotherhood between the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Hamzah,” Gus Mis recited, followed by Megawati and the entourage.
Megawati prayed for her children to be kept away from slander and from those who are envious.
“Unite them in faith, Islam, and ihsan, through which they can work hand in hand to build and safeguard the glory of PDI Perjuangan,” read the prayer recited by Gus Mis and followed by Megawati.
Meanwhile, PDIP DPP Foreign Affairs Chairman Ahmad Basarah hoped Megawati’s prayers for harmony between Prananda and Puan would be answered.
“We hope Ibu Megawati’s prayers for the harmony of Mas Prananda and Mbak Puan, and for them to be kept away from all kinds of slander, will be answered by Allah SWT for the good and future of a solid and better party,” Basarah said after the umrah.
