Megawati's Heroism Lauded At Bamusi PDIP Nuzulul Quran Event

Ahmad Basarah, the Chair of the Advisory Board of PP Bamusi and also the Chair of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Faction in the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, revealed the extent of Megawati Soekarnoputri’s love for the Indonesian nation during a Nuzulul Quran event organised by PP Bamusi on Saturday night, 7 March 2026.

‘The love for the nation was evident after she was awarded an honorary doctorate in Riyadh. Megawati Soekarnoputri expressed her gratitude by visiting the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, undertaking Umrah in Makkah, and, in front of the Kaaba, praying for the integrity and peace of Indonesia,’ Basarah said in a written statement, quoted on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

The PDIP Foreign Affairs Bureau chief welcomed Bamusi’s initiative, which held the Nuzulul Quran commemoration alongside a thanksgiving for the honorary doctorate conferred on Megawati Soekarnoputri by Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), on 9 February 2026, and a thanksgiving for the Umrah performed by the PDIP General Chairwoman together with her two children, Puan Maharani and Prananda Prabowo.

‘The committee notes three important points for this evening’s event; I would add a fourth, namely the international regard for the PDIP Chairwoman who is also the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia. Before arriving in Saudi Arabia, Ibu Megawati, as a world figure, was also invited by the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2026 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to deliver a speech on Pancasila, Trisakti, and women leadership in world peace,’ Basarah added.

During her visit to Abu Dhabi, Basarah, who accompanied Megawati in the UAE and KSA, said Megawati also met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, at the Presidential Palace Qasr Al Watan. The two discussed follow-up cooperation in 2025 concerning research by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and water distillation technology to address the climate crisis.

Meanwhile, Nasyirul Falah Amru, the Vice-Chairman-General of PP Bamusi for the 2020–2025 period, stated that the PDIP’s organisation wing he leads has monitored Megawati Soekarnoputri’s international activities from the outset, both in the UAE and in the KSA.
