Megawati's Easter Message: The Path of Human Liberation from Darkness

Chair of the PDI Perjuangan central board, Megawati Soekarnoputri, extended Easter greetings for 2026. Megawati emphasised that Easter is a moment to internalise the spirit of sacrifice and love for fellow human beings.

“Every time we commemorate Easter, we are reminded of the boundless outpouring of love, in the spirit of sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s Way of the Cross,” said Megawati on Sunday (5/4/2026).

Megawati invited Christians to internalise the meaning of the Easter celebration through the series of Holy Triduum. For her, the essence of Easter is spiritual transformation for liberation.

“Easter is the path of liberation that frees humanity from darkness, becoming light and love,” she stated.

Indonesia’s fifth president emphasised the importance of religious spiritual values in nationhood. Megawati also prayed for all Indonesian people in peace and brotherhood.

“As a nation that is pious to God, all religious spiritual values become the light that illuminates the Indonesian nation,” she said.

“Once again, happy Easter and may God’s grace always accompany our beloved Indonesian nation. Peace and prosperity greetings to us all, Shalom,” she added.
