Megawati versus Susilo: Judgment Day

Millions of Indonesians cast their votes in Monday's presidential election runoff at polling stations nationwide, from the jungle- clad province of Papua to the plush Menteng district of Jakarta.

Some 153 million of registered voters -- out of the more than 216 million population -- were expected to turn out to vote for either Megawati Soekarnoputri or Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the landmark election.

In the provisional tally, Susilo, a former Army general, and his running mate Jusuf Kalla took the lead against Megawati and Hasyim Muzadi, but the margin was narrow.

Given the vastness of the 5.2 million square kilometer archipelago, consisting of 18,110 islands, the General Elections Commission has said it would not announce the final election outcome until Oct. 5.
