Megawati Urges Society to Make Eid al-Fitr a Moment for Self-Reflection

General Chair of PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri emphasised the importance of making Idulfitri a momentum for strengthening brotherhood, solidarity, and humanitarian values. This was conveyed by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto, who stated that Megawati delivered the message in a special note for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. “Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri invites all Indonesian people to make Idulfitri a space for self-reflection and to strengthen ties of friendship,” said Hasto in a written statement quoting Megawati’s message on Saturday (21/3). “As well as building a spirit of mutual cooperation in social, national, and state life.” “Eid al-Fitr becomes a very important momentum to realise national brotherhood through a lifestyle of mutual forgiveness. Especially after a full month of fasting to temper the soul and body,” he continued. Regarding Megawati’s agenda during Eid 2026, Hasto revealed that the fifth President of Indonesia will celebrate Idulfitri this year with her extended family and closest friends, as in previous years. “As a tradition that is always maintained, Ibu Megawati celebrates Eid al-Fitr in a family atmosphere, full of warmth and togetherness with her extended family and friends with typical Nusantara Eid dishes,” he said. “So there is no open house. She continues the tradition of halal bi halal, celebrating Eid with family and friends.” On that occasion, Hasto also extended Eid al-Fitr 1447 H greetings on behalf of PDIP to all Muslims in Indonesia. “On this happy day, Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri and the entire PDIP family extend Eid al-Fitr 1447 H greetings, forgiveness for both physical and spiritual shortcomings,” said Hasto. “May the victory on this fitri day bring happiness, peace, and new spirit to continue contributing to the nation and state,” he added. Furthermore, Hasto stated that the Idulfitri momentum must strengthen all elements of the nation to maintain and realise unity as well as continue working for Indonesia Raya.
