Megawati Unveils Kudatuli Monument as Contemplation of Sukarno's Vision
PDI Perjuangan Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri inaugurated the Kudatuli monument, stating it was the result of her contemplation of her father Sukarno’s aspirations when he fought for Indonesia’s independence. The large monument, which now stands in front of the PDI Perjuangan headquarters in Menteng, Central Jakarta, depicts a woman screaming while embracing five other figures.
Speaking at the inauguration, Megawati said she specifically thanked the artist, Dolorosa Sinaga, whom she knows and admires, for beautifully capturing what she had long contemplated. She described contemplation as a process of thinking, reflecting, and praying, adding that she always prays to God, asking when the state of the Republic of Indonesia envisioned by her father—a sovereign, prosperous nation where the people live in welfare, security, and peace—will be realised.
Megawati stated that the monument represents ‘revolutionary patience’, a quality born from conviction, steadfastness, and courage. She explained that in her contemplation, she reflected on her own life and distilled it into words, which were then manifested in the Kudatuli sculpture. She elaborated that revolutionary patience means that when faced with obstacles, one does not give up but instead seeks a way around them, and that this principle must be taught to the people wherever they are, as truth will ultimately prevail.
