Megawati to pay respects to former Gianyar Regent Agung Bharata this afternoon

The Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Sukarnoputri, will visit Puri Gianyar at Jalan Ngurah Rai Nomo 99, Gianyar District, Gianyar Regency. Megawati’s arrival is to pay respects at the home of former Gianyar Regent Anak Agung Gde Agung Bharata. The palebon funeral rite for Bharata is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

DetikBali observed that the entrance to Puri Agung prepared for mourners is on the southern side or the northern side of Alun-Alun Gianyar. The atmosphere at the entrance had appeared quiet since 11:30 WITA.

Megawati’s motorcade had not yet been seen entering the southern gate of Puri Agung. Only a few of the puri’s attendants, known as pengayah or pesarenan, dressed in Bali-wide white ceremonial attire were seen at the entrance and around Alun-Alun Gianyar.

‘Plan for Megawati’s arrival is at 14:00 WITA,’ Suardita said.

Suardita said 70 personnel from the Gianyar Police Resort had been deployed to secure Megawati’s visit. He declined to specify the exact locations of security points.

‘The personnel assigned number 70 and have already conducted security along the routes and locations designated,’ he said.

Previously reported, the palebon ritual or cremation for Bharata will be performed at Setra Beng on 7 March. The sequence of ceremonies begins with the mesiram and malelet processions on 3 March.

Two days before the climax of palebon or on 5 March, the munggah ngaskara and ngaturan ayaban rites will be carried out. As a sulinggih (priest), Bharata’s palebon ceremony will use the padma offerings and white cows.
