Megawati to kick off jamboree

PONTIANAK, Central Kalimantan: President Megawati Soekarnoputri is set to open the seventh national meeting of the Indonesian Boy Scouts (Pramuka) in Pontianak on Dec. 15, an official has said.

Some 1,200 guests, including ministers, governors and foreign envoys, will attend the ceremony, the chairman of the Central Kalimantan provincial's boy scouts, Henri Usman, said here on late Friday.

After the ceremony, President Megawati will officiate a project to build a bridge over Kapuas River in Pontianak. Kapuas is the largest river in Kalimantan.

The jamboree will be held in Sintang district, 425 kilometers east of Pontianak. Some 700 Indonesian and foreign boy and girl scouts will participate in the jamboree. -- Antara
