Megawati supports special laborers' bank

JAKARTA: Minister of Manpower Jacob Nuwa Wea said President
Megawati Soekarnoputri supported an idea to form a bank designed
to allow employees easier access to loans.

"They (employees) can borrow money from the bank without
difficult procedures by simply presenting a reference from their
work place," Jacob told reporters after meeting Megawati on
Monday.

He said he wanted the bank up and running by this year, and
for that he had sought the support of the president.

According to Jacob, Megawati told him the idea needs further
study but that she is basically very supportive of it. -- JP
