Megawati Spends 3.5 Hours in Talks with Sultan HB X in Jogja, Served Wedang Semlo

The fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia and chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Sukarnoputri, together with her family, held a meeting and dinner with Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X at the Kraton Jogja. The discussions between Megawati and the Sultan’s entourage lasted 3.5 hours.

Megawati and her party arrived at around 19:15 WIB at the Kraton Jogja, on Friday (22 May 2026). The Sultan, who is also the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), welcomed Megawati and her entourage, accompanied by Gusti Kanjeng Ratu (GKR) Hemas.

The Sultan and GKR Hemas greeted Megawati and her party, after which the Sultan introduced his second daughter GKR Condrokirono and his fifth or youngest daughter GKR Bendara and the Sultan’s son-in-law, KPH Purbodiningrat.

Megawati attended Kraton Jogja with her son M. Prananda Prabowo and wife Nancy Prabowo, granddaughter Pinka Hapsari, two nieces Puti Soekarno and Romy Soekarno, and PDIP politician Bintang Puspayoga.

In the Pendopo, Megawati and her party were served with wedang semlo made from banana, ginger, cinnamon, palm sugar, pandan leaves and lemongrass. The drink is a favourite of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

Gamelan music could be heard playing around the pendopo. Although soft, there were occasional bursts of laughter, particularly at the quips of GKR Bendara.

After being served wedang semlo, the Sultan invited Megawati and her party to dinner in the Pendopo Kraton Kilen. The Sultan and GKR Hemas sat at the same table with Megawati, M. Prananda Prabowo and his wife Nancy Prabowo, and GKR Condrokirono.

The royal dinner with Megawati’s family was warm. The casual discussions over dinner lasted 3.5 hours.
