Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri paid a visit to the pelebon of former Gianyar Regent Anak Agung Gde Agung Bharata at Puri Agung Gianyar on Thursday (5 March 2026). On the occasion, Megawati recalled Agung Bharata’s service and achievements during his career in the PDIP and in government.

DetikBali observed that Megawati was scheduled to arrive at 14:00 Wita. However, the fifth President of Indonesia arrived about 40 minutes earlier. She was greeted by Gianyar Regent I Made Agus Mahayastra and Bali Vice Governor I Nyoman Giri Prasta.

Megawati then sat for a moment in the bali gedong, or the front terrace of the main building of Agung Bharata’s home. In the sombre mood, she discussed the late man’s career in government.

“Her service to the party (PDIP) has been a credit to the party,” Mahayastra said after accompanying Megawati.

Megawati also visited the bale sumanggen where the body lay in state. There, she paid her last respects to Agung Bharata.

Mahayastra said Megawati often recalled Agung Bharata’s political journey, from serving as Gianyar Regent (2003-2008), to a member of the Bali Provincial Legislative Council (2009-2012), and again Gianyar Regent (2013-2018).

According to Mahayastra, these achievements are considered a contribution and a source of pride for the party.

“At the same time, we pray that his successor will be able to fight for the party,” he said.

Not only about politics, Mahayastra noted Megawati has known Agung Bharata since youth. In fact, the PDIP chairwoman often visited Puri Agung Gianyar when there were family celebrations. “That was before he became regent, when he was still young; she already knew the chairperson,” he said.
