Megawati Receives Saudi Arabian Ambassador, Commitment to Maintain World Peace
PDI Perjuangan Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri received a visit from the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia, Faisal Abdullah Al Amoudi. During the meeting, they discussed commitments to maintaining world peace.
The meeting took place at Megawati’s residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (9/3/2026). Megawati was accompanied by PDIP Deputy Chairman Ahmad Basarah, Head of PDIP’s Policy Research and Analysis Agency Andi Widjajanto, and Guntur Romli.
The meeting reportedly proceeded warmly for nearly two hours. Before shaking hands with the Saudi Ambassador, Megawati commented on the white orchids presented by the Ambassador, which were placed in the room.
“The white orchids are genuine; the others are genetically engineered,” said Megawati in a statement shared on Thursday (9/4/2026).
The Saudi Ambassador congratulated Megawati on her honorary doctorate awarded by Princess Nourah University (PNU) in Riyadh last February. Megawati expressed her thanks for the conferment and the warm reception during her umrah.
“I am grateful because the umrah process I undertook yesterday went smoothly,” Megawati told the Saudi Ambassador.
Ahmad Basarah, who also joined the umrah at the time, explained that Megawati observed the construction progress at Masjidil Haram. Megawati mentioned the plan for a hajj quota of 6 million by 2030 and proposed planting trees in the Holy City and areas for hajj rituals, particularly “Sukarno trees”.
“The Saudi Ambassador was delighted with Ibu Megawati’s proposal and explained that Saudi Arabia indeed has a programme to plant 10 billion trees. Therefore, he will warmly welcome Ibu Megawati’s offer,” said Basarah.
The Chairman of the BRIN Advisory Board stated his readiness to collaborate in providing research results on tree species suitable for Saudi Arabia’s natural conditions. Basarah said the Saudi Ambassador asked Megawati to contribute actively to the situation in the Middle East.
“According to the Saudi Ambassador, Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri is an important figure in local and global politics with attention to environmental and geopolitical issues; therefore, Ibu Megawati’s voice is very important and impactful for the Islamic world and globally to maintain regional stability and world peace,” said Basarah.
Megawati responded positively to the request. She supports the two-week ceasefire and hopes for full peace.
“Ibu Megawati responded positively to the request from the Saudi Ambassador; she also supports the agreed two-week ceasefire and, following Bung Karno’s geopolitical teachings, Ibu Megawati is ready to be a bridge for anyone in conflict to achieve true peace,” said Basarah.
“Ibu Megawati also mentioned that she is a special envoy serving as a bridge between South Korea and North Korea,” Basarah emphasised.
