Megawati Prays for Harmony Between Prananda and Puan During Umrah
Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri prayed for harmony within her family whilst performing the umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, 14 February 2025. Megawati's entourage was led by Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi.
Among the prayers offered during the tawaf ritual was one for harmony between Megawati's children, Prananda Prabowo and Puan Maharani, both of whom were part of the umrah group. Megawati's daughter-in-law, Nancy Prananda, was also included in the prayers. The fifth President of Indonesia expressed her hope that Allah would bestow affection and strengthen the bond between Prananda and Puan.
Megawati repeated the prayer recited by Zuhairi Misrawi: "Unite the two of them in harmony that You bless, grace their bond with a canopy of love and affection that You approve, and shelter them in the mercy of brotherhood that You cherish," Megawati said in a written statement on the PDI-P website, cited on Monday, 16 February 2026.
The daughter of founding President Soekarno also expressed her hope that the relationship between Prananda and Puan could be as close as the bond between the Prophet Muhammad and his uncle Hamzah bin Abdul Muttalib. Megawati further prayed that her children would be protected from those harbouring envy and malicious intent through slander.
According to Megawati, harmony among her children would help maintain the solidarity of the party's movement. "Unite them in faith, Islam and ihsan so that they may work together to build and safeguard the glory of PDI-P," she said, echoing Misrawi's prayer.
Beyond praying for her descendants, Megawati also offered prayers for her parents, beseeching Allah to grant paradise to Soekarno and Fatmawati. During the prayers, Megawati expressed gratitude that there was no longer any slander targeting Soekarno, as the allegations of the Proclamation Father's involvement in the 30 September Movement/PKI affair had been cleared by the revocation of People's Consultative Assembly Decree Number 33/MPRS/1967.
Megawati prayed that the illness Soekarno had endured would serve to absolve his past sins and transgressions. She affirmed her belief that her father left behind a rich ideological legacy that forms the pillars of Indonesia's strength. "Bung Karno inspired the Indonesian nation with Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika so that we might realise mutual cooperation and live harmoniously with one another," she said.
After the tawaf procession concluded, PDI-P Central Executive Board Chairman for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Basarah affirmed all of Megawati's prayers, including the prayer requesting that Allah preserve harmony between Puan and Prananda. Basarah agreed that a good relationship between the siblings would have a positive impact on PDI-P.
"We hope that Ibu Megawati's prayers for harmony between Mas Prananda and Mbak Puan, and for both of them to be kept far from all manner of slander, will be answered by Allah for the good and future of a solid and even better party," Basarah said.
