Megawati Orders PDI-P Regional Heads and Legislators to Cut Budgets
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri has instructed regional heads and council leaders from the party to economise budgets amid potential impacts from global conflicts, particularly the Iran-Israel tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The instruction was delivered by Megawati when opening the organisational strengthening agenda for Chairs, Secretaries, and Treasurers (KSB) of regional boards across Indonesia at the Party School, Jakarta, on Thursday (16/4/2026).
“I have already ordered the regional heads and council leaders from PDI Perjuangan to take innovative policies to implement budget savings,” said Megawati in a press release on Friday (17/4/2026).
Therefore, policies must be directed towards fulfilling the basic needs of the community, especially food, amid potential economic pressures due to the global situation.
“Prioritise a sense of priority and urgency. Ensure the people’s food needs. Create mobilisation for labour-intensive work,” said Megawati.
Megawati emphasised that the situation must be responded to seriously by PDI-P cadres by going directly to the community.
“I will give a stern warning to cadres who do not want to work maximally in the field. Corruption is prohibited. Go down to the grassroots and feel the pulse of the people’s lives. That is where you will understand politics as life,” said Megawati.
For that reason, she asked cadres to remain disciplined and not violate the law.
“Victory for us is not just an electoral victory. Victory for us is when the people feel the presence of the party. When the people feel justice. I only want this party to remain upright as the mainstay for the state and nation,” said Megawati.
