Megawati Once Wanted to Find Buzzers Smearing Her Name, But Ended Up Leaving It Alone

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri, admitted that she once intended to seek out supporters or buzzers to smear her name. However, the General Chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) ultimately decided to let it be. “I called those buzzers bansers. Why? It’s easy for them to badmouth me. They say I sold Sipadan and Ligitan islands,” Megawati stated during her speech at the Conferral of Emeritus Professor Title for Arief Hidayat at Borobudur University, Jakarta, on Saturday (2/5/2026). “In my heart, I thought, do I not have my own troops? I’ll find some later, but how? Then I thought, we are Pancasila; they are just after money too. So, let it be,” Megawati added. During the event, Megawati realised that some of her statements could be twisted by the buzzers. She issued a warning before proceeding further with her speech. “Because I see this country is getting more like poco-poco every day, oh yes. If… watch out if you want to twist it with your bansers,” Megawati said. The conferral ceremony for Arief Hidayat was attended by several rectors and professors from other universities. Several officials and former state leaders were also present, such as former Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Mahfud MD; former Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly; and Deputy Chief of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Asep Nana Mulyana.
