Megawati Offers Easter Greetings, Emphasising the Meaning of Sacrifice and Boundless Love

JAKARTA - Former Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, described Easter as a moment to rekindle the spirit of sacrifice and boundless love for fellow human beings. “Every commemoration of Easter Day reminds us of the outpouring of boundless love, in the spirit of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s Way of the Cross,” said Megawati in her statement received in Jakarta on Sunday. The General Chair of the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board conveyed Easter greetings for the year 2026 to all Christian communities in Indonesia. According to her, the essence of this celebration is not merely a ceremony, but a spiritual transformation towards true liberation. “Easter is the path of liberation that frees humanity from darkness, becoming light and love,” she stated. The daughter of the Proclaimer of Indonesian Independence underscored the importance of religious spiritual values as the foundation in national and state life. “As a nation that is pious to God, all religious spiritual values become the light that illuminates the Indonesian nation,” said Megawati. In addition to delivering the Easter message and greetings, Megawati prayed that God’s grace would always encompass the entire Indonesian people in peace and brotherhood. “Once again, happy Easter and may God’s grace always accompany our beloved Indonesian nation.
