Megawati off to Japan in December

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri is scheduled to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Japan Commemorative Summit on Dec. 11 in Tokyo.

Spokesman for the foreign ministry Marty Natalegawa said on Friday that the summit would focus on measures that would be beneficial for both countries.

"We will issue a joint declaration and plan of action at the end of the summit, which will focus on the future of our relations," said Marty, who is also the acting director general of ASEAN.

The summit will also mark the 10th anniversary of Japan's inclusion as an ASEAN dialog partner. The senior official's meeting before the summit will be held in mid-November in Tokyo. -- JP
