Megawati Instructs PDIP's Commission V in DPR to Hold Meeting on Railway Improvements
Former Fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, is mourning the long-distance train (KAJJ) Argo Bromo collision with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station, which resulted in 16 fatalities. Megawati hopes the victims of the accident are placed in the best side of God.
“Ibu Megawati has been following the reports on the handling of the victims through the mass media. She is deeply saddened. Ibu Megawati prays for all the accident victims, especially those called by God, that their journey is smooth and they receive the best place in heaven,” said PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto in his statement on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
PDIP Chairwoman Megawati has instructed party cadres in the DPR’s Commission V to hold meetings on improving the land transportation system, including working meetings with PT KAI and related parties. Commission V of the DPR directly deals with infrastructure, transportation, and safety institutions.
“Ibu Megawati requests all members of the PDIP’s Poksi V in the DPR RI, led by Brother Lasarus, to hold a meeting to carry out improvements to the railway security system, communication system, and instrumentation system,” said Hasto.
This incident is seen as a momentum to overhaul and strengthen the transportation system in Indonesia. Hasto hopes such events do not recur.
“In the future, railways must become the backbone of the national transportation system that is safe, comfortable, on time, and provides quality service and security guarantees for all Indonesian people,” he stated.
The death toll from the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and KRL accident at Bekasi Timur Station has risen to 16 people. The 16th victim was reported to have died after receiving treatment in the ICU at Bekasi City Hospital.
“The patient is generally improving, with three in ICU. Three people, and one has died, leaving two more, but hopefully they can recover,” said West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi after visiting the victims at Bekasi City Hospital on Wednesday (29/4).
