Megawati in hospital with suspected dengue

Former Indonesian president Megawati Soekarnoputri was admitted to hospital late on Tuesday with suspected dengue fever, a source close to her said.

For the time being, no one except close family members were allowed to visit Megawati, who was admitted to the MMC Hospital in South Jakarta at 4 p.m., the source said.

Dengue fever is an annual hazard in Indonesia, the country recording 605 deaths this year from the mosquito-borne disease. Megawati served three years as president but was defeated last year by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the country's first direct presidential election. -- JP
