Megawati Hosts National Figures Including Cardinal Suharyo and Sinta Nuriyah for 'National Gathering'

The fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia and Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Soekarnoputri, received a visit from leaders of the Gerakan Nurani Bangsa (GNB) at the Megawati Institute in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 22 June 2026. The event, styled as a ‘National Gathering’, brought together prominent figures to discuss pressing national issues.

Megawati arrived at the institute around 12.50 WIB, greeted by Megawati Institute Head Hilmar Farid, Advisory Board member Darmadi Durianto, and Treasurer Selly Andriany Gantina. The meeting commenced at 13.00 WIB, with Megawati, dressed in a pink batik motif, opening the session with her remarks.

During her presentation, former First Lady Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid and her daughter Inayah Wahid entered the room. Megawati paused her speech to warmly embrace Sinta Nuriyah, creating a touching moment that drew smiles from the attendees. Other notable participants included Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, Reverend Gomar Gultom, academic Karlina Rohima Supelli, former Deputy Chair of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Laode M. Syarif, former Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, former Komnas HAM Commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara, and Nalar Institute Founder Yanuar Nugroho.

The gathering was framed as a strategic dialogue on issues of humanity, diversity, and national morality, reflecting the GNB’s consistent advocacy. The atmosphere was described as relaxed yet solemn, underscoring the significance of the cross-sectoral dialogue among these influential national figures.
