Megawati holds gathering with Gerakan Nurani Bangsa figures
Jakarta - Indonesia’s 5th President and Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board, Megawati Soekarnoputri, received a courtesy visit from national figures affiliated with the Gerakan Nurani Bangsa (GNB). The meeting, titled ‘National Gathering’, was held at the Megawati Institute office on Jalan Diponegoro No. 56, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday afternoon (22/6/2026). Megawati Soekarnoputri arrived at the Megawati Institute building around 12.50 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. The daughter of Proclamator Bung Karno was warmly welcomed by the leadership of the research institute, including Head of the Megawati Institute Hilmar Farid, Advisory Board member Darmadi Durianto, and Treasurer Selly Andriany Gantina. Senior PDI Perjuangan politician Hendrawan Supratikno was also present to accompany the strategic meeting. The National Gathering was attended by key figures from Gerakan Nurani Bangsa, known for consistently voicing issues of humanity, diversity, and state morality. Attendees included Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, Reverend Gomar Gultom, and cultural figure Father Franz Magnis Suseno SJ. Also present were academic Karlina R. Supelli, former KPK Deputy Chair Laode M. Syarif, former Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, former Komnas HAM Commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara, Lab45’s Andi Widjajanto, academic Francisia Seda, and Founder and Advisor of Nalar Institute Yanuar Nugroho. The meeting, which began at 1.00 p.m., was conducted in a relaxed yet solemn atmosphere. Megawati, wearing a pink batik motif, began her presentation. As she started speaking, Ibu Nyai Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid, wife of Indonesia’s 4th President KH Abdurrahman Wahid, and Gus Dur’s daughter Inayah Wahid arrived in the meeting room. Megawati paused her remarks to greet and place a hand on the shoulder of Sinta Wahid, who was wearing a patterned batik and cream-coloured headscarf. The two exchanged cheek kisses and chatted casually for a moment, drawing smiles from the invited guests. Megawati then resumed her presentation, discussing a range of national issues. The national meeting addressed various fundamental problems facing the nation, the importance of safeguarding unity, and the need to uphold moral conscience in national life for a better future for Indonesia.
