PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri highlighted the unity of the Iranian nation, which she described as extraordinary and the reason the country has not been divided. She said even a superpower like the United States has been unable to defeat Iran.

Megawati made the remarks while serving as ceremony inspector at the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence at the PDIP Party School in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Monday (17/8/2026). She began by urging Indonesians to learn from countries that have dared to place their fate in their own hands.

“Bung Karno repeatedly stressed that only a nation that dares to place its fate in its own hands will stand strong. For example, learn from China, Japan, Germany, South Korea, and even from the militancy of Iran, Cuba, and North Korea,” Megawati said in her address.

She then highlighted Iran’s geopolitical strength. According to her, the main reason Iran is difficult to conquer is its extraordinary spirit of unity.

“The question is, why has America, which is said to be a superpower, been unable to defeat Iran to this day? Think about it with a political mind. Why? It is not only because of money, but what? The unity of the Iranian nation is extraordinary. Just imagine, they are not divided,” Megawati said.

She stated that Iran is a country that has almost never been defeated. This, she continued, is because its people work together and stand united as one.

“Imagine a country like Iran that cannot be defeated by America to this day. I think it is extraordinary! We should be like that,” Megawati said.

Before the party cadres, Megawati reminded them to remain united. She again emphasised Bung Karno’s message that only a nation that dares to place its fate in its own hands will stand strong.

“My fellow Indonesians, at the age of the 81st Republic, everything Bung Karno dreamed of should actually have been achieved by now,” Megawati concluded.
