Megawati-Hamzah partnership leads to improvement
Megawati-Hamzah partnership leads to improvement
From Rakyat Merdeka
The partnership between President Megawati and Vice President
Hamzah Haz has resulted in signs of improvement in the national
economy as indicated by the rupiah strengthening against the U.S.
dollar.
In accordance with the mutual cooperation spirit of the
present Cabinet I propose ten exemplary deeds that should be
shown by Megawati and Hamzah.
First, they should live a modest life, always wearing locally-
made garments and avoiding extravagant parties.
Second, they should donate part of their wealth to charity.
Third, they should close their accounts and keep only an
account in a state bank to receive their salaries and their
balance should be publicized every month.
Fourth, they should report every month on gifts or souvenirs
from other countries or foreign institutions to be registered as
state property.
Fifth, they should make a monthly report of their wealth.
Sixth, the cost of official trips or visits should be
minimized, for example, by using commercial aircraft.
Seventh, President Megawati and Vice President Hamzah Haz
should give up their posts as chairperson of the Indonesian
Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and chairman of the United
Development Party (PPP) respectively.
Eighth, all Cabinet ministers, the military (TNI) commander,
the military chiefs of staff, the police chief, the attorney
general as well as all government officials should be obliged to
have taxpayer code numbers, pay taxes, report their wealth and
live modestly.
Ninth, the President and the Vice President should prohibit
their children and relatives from carrying out business
activities facilitated by their positions as president and vice
president. Tenth, they should contribute 2.5 percent of their
salaries to the National Charity Fund every month.
