Jakarta – Former President Megawati Soekarnoputri has expressed her condolences over the death of the Sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, on Monday, 2 March 2026.
The condolences were conveyed through PDI Perjuangan Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto whilst attending the funeral prayer service for the late vice president at Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Central Jakarta on Monday.
“On behalf of Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri and the entire PDI Perjuangan family, we express our deepest condolences on the passing of Bapak Try Sutrisno, a true soldier and statesman whose life has been a source of inspiration for all of us,” Hasto told media representatives.
Throughout his tenure in the military and subsequently as vice president, Hasto noted that Try Sutrisno had made substantial contributions to the nation. Even in his advanced years, Hasto said, Try Sutrisno continued to offer his intellectual capacity and dedication to national progress.
“Particularly, he served alongside Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri on the Advisory Council of the Pancasila Ideology Development Board. We recognised his tireless efforts for the nation and the state,” Hasto said.
“We pray that Bapak Try Sutrisno’s soul is eased on its journey, that he finds the best place in paradise, and that his bereaved family receives mercy, comfort, and strength,” Hasto concluded.
