Megawati Entrusts Message to Young Generation at 30th Anniversary of Kudatuli
Former Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri visited a historical exhibition and photo archive titled ‘Meretas Jalan Demokrasi’ (Paving the Way for Democracy) at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. She was accompanied by her son M. Prananda Prabowo, PDIP officials, diversity thinker Sukidi, and artist Butet Kartaredjasa. During the visit, Megawati watched a video screening recounting the attack on the PDI headquarters on 27 July 1996, an event known as Kudatuli. She appeared deeply moved while watching footage of the violence endured by her supporters. Afterwards, Megawati wrote a message on a black wall in the exhibition space. She specifically addressed the younger generation, urging them to internalise four key values: conviction, resilience, courage, and patience. She stated these four values must unite as one. Megawati also addressed all Indonesian citizens, reminding them that they possess equal rights before the law. She emphasised that the younger generation will carry forward the nation’s history and must do so with a strong sense of national pride and self-worth.
