Megawati arrives in Britain

Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri arrived in London on Wednesday at the start of a four-day official visit to Britain.

Megawati flew in from Rome on her private Garuda Indonesian Airlines Airbus jet to Heathrow Airport where a Royal Air Force guard of honor flanked the red carpet that marked her route to the Royal VIP lounge.

The president is to meet with Prime Minister Tony Blair on Thursday, and will also have talks with Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown and Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt.

Indonesian Embassy officials said the subjects of the talks would include economic cooperation and bilateral issues.

Megawati, who is on a European tour, was met at Heathrow by Baroness Trumpington representing the Foreign Office. She flies on to Vienna on Saturday. -- AP
