Megawati and SBY Absent from MPR Annual Session, Jokowi Attends

The 5th President Megawati Soekarnoputri and the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) were absent from the 2026 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD held at the parliamentary complex on Friday (14/8).

Meanwhile, the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, attended the annual state session. Jokowi arrived at around 07.38 WIB and appeared to be wearing a black suit.

Chairman of the PDI-P Central Executive Board, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, who attended on behalf of his party, said Megawati was absent because she had other engagements. However, Djarot did not specify what those engagements were.

“Ibu Mega is not here; Ibu Mega has an engagement today that cannot be postponed,” said Djarot at the parliamentary complex.

Meanwhile, SBY was absent because he is undergoing treatment in the United States. He also shared his painting activities during his treatment process through his official YouTube account.

“In between medical check-up activities, SBY took the time to paint the natural beauty of the state of Minnesota, United States. The subject of his painting this time is the very famous Mississippi River,” as quoted from the caption of the post on Tuesday (11/8).

A number of former vice presidents also attended the occasion. They were the 13th Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, the 11th Vice President Boediono, and the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

The agenda of the MPR RI Annual Session is scheduled to begin at 08.30 WIB. In this agenda, the 8th President Prabowo Subianto will also deliver the State Address and present the Performance Report of State Institutions.
