Former President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri, together with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, inaugurated the Heritage Flag Park in South Jakarta. Megawati arrived alongside Pramono Anung and Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno.

Monitoring at the Heritage Flag Park on Saturday, 14 March 2026, Megawati, Pramono, and Rano arrived at the park at 5:00 PM. Megawati wore a white blouse with floral patterns and a red scarf, whilst Pramono wore a white shirt.

During the ceremony, Pramono expressed appreciation to state-owned enterprises, architects, sculptors, and other collaborators who supported the park’s development. “Praise be to Allah Almighty, today we can all gather to inaugurate the Heritage Flag Park and the Fatmawati Statue,” Pramono said at the inauguration ceremony.

Pramono stated that the park’s development is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s effort to increase modern, inclusive, and family-friendly green spaces. He also noted that Jakarta is currently transforming into a global city in accordance with Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Special Region of Jakarta.

Together with Deputy Governor Rano Karno, Pramono noted that Jakarta’s ranking as a global city has improved in recent years. “When I and Bang Doel served, Jakarta’s ranking was 74th out of 156 cities worldwide. Now it has risen to 71st out of 156,” he said.

He also highlighted improvements in Jakarta’s transportation quality, which now ranks 17th best in the world, and has reportedly surpassed several major Southeast Asian cities.

The Heritage Flag Park spans approximately 5.6 hectares and is equipped with various facilities including a 1.2-kilometre jogging track, tennis courts, a multifunctional field, and padel courts. One padel court is provided free to the public through a registration system. Pramono stated that the park will be open to the public 24 hours daily starting the following day.

He also emphasised that the area has been prepared as both a public space and recreational destination for Jakarta residents. “This place covers 5.6 hectares with a 1.2-kilometre jogging track. I am confident that in the afternoon or evening, the atmosphere will be very different and become a gathering place for residents,” he said.

Within the park is a Fatmawati Statue, honouring the woman who sewed the red and white national flag that was raised during the Declaration of Independence on 17 August 1945. Pramono revealed that the statue depicts Fatmawati whilst pregnant with her son, Guntur Soekarnoputra.

The park also provides six business locations specifically designated for micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM). Although many parties wished to open restaurants in the area, the Jakarta Provincial Government decided to provide space for UMKM to develop. “Although there are actually many who wish to open restaurants here, we decided to give UMKM the opportunity to develop in this place,” he said.

Pramono hopes the Heritage Flag Park can become a symbol of Jakarta’s pride and a public space that benefits residents. “Hopefully it can provide benefits for all residents and make Jakarta City increasingly green, sustainable, and environmentally responsible,” he said.
