Megawati Absent from Today's MPR Annual Session

Former Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri was absent from the MPR Annual Session and the joint DPR-DPD session at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 14 August 2026. Djarot Saiful Hidayat, Chair of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Central Executive Board, stated that Megawati had other activities and could not attend the annual session. ‘Bu Mega is not here. Bu Mega has other activities,’ Djarot told reporters at the Parliament Complex. When asked whether Megawati would attend the 81st Independence Day commemoration ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, Djarot also denied it. He explained that Megawati usually attends the ceremony at the PDIP Party School during the Independence Day commemoration. ‘On 17 August, Bu Mega usually attends the ceremony at the party school,’ he clarified. The 2026 MPR Annual Session and Joint DPR-DPD Session were scheduled to run from 08:30 WIB to 10:48 WIB. The event was opened by MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, who delivered an introductory speech, followed by DPD Speaker Sultan Najamudin. President Prabowo Subianto then delivered a speech on the performance report of state institutions and a state address in conjunction with the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. Following a break, the agenda continued with the DPR Plenary Meeting for the First Session Period of the 2026-2027 Session Year, which commenced around 13:30 WIB. The plenary was opened by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, who delivered a speech to mark the opening of the session. President Prabowo subsequently delivered a state address and the government’s statement on the Draft Law on the State Budget for the 2027 Fiscal Year, along with its Financial Note and supporting documents.
