Megawati Absent from 2026 Annual and Joint Session, Here's Why

PDI Perjuangan (PDI-P) Central Board Chair Djarot Saiful Hidayat has stated that Indonesia’s 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, was absent from the 2026 Annual Session and Joint Session. Djarot explained that the PDI-P Chairperson had an unavoidable engagement. “Ibu Mega is not here, she has an activity today that cannot be postponed,” Djarot said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026). Djarot also addressed Megawati’s potential attendance at the State Palace on 17 August 2026. He noted that the party leader typically presides over a ceremony at the Party School in Lenteng Agung. “For the 17th, Ibu Mega usually has a ceremony at the Party School. We will check later, but on the 17th, Ibu Mega usually leads the flag ceremony at the Party School,” he added. The MPR Annual Session was held on 14 August 2026, inviting former Indonesian presidents and the general chairpersons of political parties in Indonesia.
