Mega's envoy to visit Pyongyang

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri's special envoy Nana Sutresna will leave for North Korea on Dec. 6 to convey a peace message from the President.

"The President is sending a message to express concern over the situation in North Korea and to urge all parties to move ahead with peace talks to end the crisis," Nana said after meeting with Megawati on Monday.

Nana will first stop in Seoul, South Korea, before proceeding to Pyongyang on Dec. 9. In Pyongyang, he is slated to meet with various leaders, including, if possible, President Kim Jong-il.

Indonesia has devoted much attention to the North Korean crisis, with Megawati serving as a peace messenger between North and South Korea in April last year.

The role of peace facilitator has been taken over by China, which organized a six-nation meeting in Beijing earlier this year.

The six nations were North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China, the United States and Russia. --JP
