Mega to open religious conference

YOGYAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri is scheduled to open the 6th General Assembly of the Asia Religion and Peace Conference in Yogyakarta on Monday.

Megawati will be accompanied by, among others, husband Taufik Kiemas and Minister of Religious Affairs Said Aqil Al Munawar.

Yogyakarta Sultan Hamengku Buwono X and wife I Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hemas will also accompany the President during the opening ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel.

Credential Committee Judge Leng Thaisong, the moderator of the Asian Conference Mirnawaz Khan Marwat and the Steering Committee chairman Din Syamsudin will also deliver opening speeches.

Din Syamsudin is a secretary of the Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI).

After the ceremony, Megawati is scheduled to take a trip to Bali to open the Bali Art Week at the Monument of Balinese Struggle in Niti Mandala Renon, Denpasar. --Antara
