Mega receives 'farmer' award

JAKARTA: The Outstanding Farmers' and Fishermen's Society
(KTNA) presented President Megawati Soekarnoputri with an award
in recognition of her desire to improve public welfare.

The Adi Bakti Tani Nelayan Maha Utama medal was presented to
the President on Thursday at the State Palace by KTNA chairman
Winarno Tohir.

"The inspiration for this came from our members during our
national meeting on June 5 in Tondano, South Sulawesi, as we
consider the President to be interested in the welfare of farmers
and fishermen," Winarno said.

He said the award had nothing to do with Megawati's bid for
the presidency in the July 5 election. -- JP
