Mega not to meet with King Fahd

JAKARTA: Indonesia said President Megawati Soekarnoputri had no plans to hold talks with King Fahd following her minor haj pilgrimage to the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca.

"There is no planned meeting that we are aware of. This is a personal journey to perform a haj pilgrimage," Indonesian foreign ministry spokesman Marty Natalegawa said on Friday.

AFP quoted a Saudi official as saying that Megawati was due to meet with Saudi leaders, including King Fahd, for talks on Iraq in the Red Sea city of Jeddah on Saturday.

Among the issues to be discussed was the possibility of sending Muslim troops to Iraq as proposed by Riyadh, the Saudi official said.

Megawati is slated to return to Jakarta on Sunday. -- JP
