A meeting between executives from the Indonesian Automotive Vehicle Industry Association (GAIKINDO) and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa left a brief yet strategically significant story. Behind the major agenda on the automotive industry, further communications are being prepared.

GAIKINDO General Secretary Kukuh Kumara revealed that the meeting took place in a limited timeframe. Nevertheless, one key point was immediately secured by the association.

“The essence at that time was that we, the GAIKINDO board, visited Mr Purbaya for an audience and requested his willingness to join the conference together with GIIAS on 4 August,” said Kukuh during a discussion at the Industrial Journalists’ Forum (Forwin) on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

The agenda relates to the annual automotive exhibition that serves as a showcase for the national vehicle industry. On that occasion, GAIKINDO directly invited Purbaya to take on an important role in the forum.

“He agreed; we requested that he become one of the keynote speakers at the event, and he promised to attend,” he continued.

Time limitations prevented other discussions from being explored further. However, communications between the two parties are assured not to stop there.

“The others were not discussed yet because his time was very limited at that point. However, he is willing to sit down again with GAIKINDO for discussions,” said Kukuh.

Previously, the meeting between the Ministry of Finance and GAIKINDO was focused on strengthening the national automotive industry. The meeting occurred on 9 April. The government highlighted the positive trend in car sales in the first quarter of 2026, driven by increased interest in electric and hybrid vehicles.

Purbaya also emphasised the government’s commitment to continue supporting the competitiveness of the domestic automotive industry, including accelerating the transition to more environmentally friendly vehicles.
