Meeting to focus on ape survival
Kuching, Malaysia (DPA): The International Great Apes of the
World Conference (GAWC-3) to be held on Borneo Island from July 3
is expected to come up with an Action Plan for Great Ape
Survival, the Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) said in a
statement yesterday.
Delegates will present findings from the wildlife research,
conservation and captive management for orangutans and other apes
faced with extinction worldwide at the four-day international
conference, the statement said.
GAWC-3 coordinator, SDI said that over 60 researchers,
conservationists and ape experts will present papers and conduct
workshops on wide-ranging topics such as the recent devastating
Bornean fires.
The conference, organized by the Los Angeles-based Orangutans
Foundation International (OFI) would attended by local academics,
students and relevant authorities such as the Forest Department.
