Meeting to discuss APEC
JAKARTA (JP): Economists will discuss Indonesia's role in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and the problems and prospects of cooperation among its members in a one-day seminar here today.
"We'll let our young and brilliant economists, those under 30 or in their early 30s, present their papers during the seminar," said Marzuki Usman, chairman of the Indonesian Economists Association (ISEI), the organizer of the meeting.
He said here Monday evening that noted speakers like Anwar Nasution, Hadi Soesastro, Mari Pangestu, Hadi Satyagraha, Nabiel Makarim, Rizal Ramli, Mangara Tambunan, Anugerah Pekerti, Palgunadi will take part in the meeting.
Indonesia, currently chairman of the 17-member APEC, will host the second meeting of its leaders in Bogor, West Java, in the middle of November.
Marzuki said that ISEI, in cooperation with the U.S.-based American Committee for Asia Economic Studies, will also organize an international seminar on APEC on Aug. 29 in Nusa Dua, Bali, which will involve speakers from various countries, including the United States and China. (09)
