Meeting Sugiono, US Secretary of State Thanks Indonesia for Joining Board of Peace
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a series of engagements in Washington DC. The meeting included discussion of Indonesia’s decision to join the Board of Peace (BoP), an initiative of US President Donald Trump.
In a post on Marco Rubio’s Instagram account seen on Friday (20/2/2026), Sugiono was pictured wearing a bright blue suit with a black peci, whilst Rubio wore a dark blue suit paired with a light blue tie. The two were seen shaking hands, with their respective national flags displayed behind them in a formal setting.
According to a press statement on the official US State Department website, Minister Sugiono and Secretary Rubio affirmed the contribution of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. The meeting also reaffirmed commitments to deepening mutually beneficial economic and security cooperation.
Secretary Rubio was reported to have expressed gratitude to Minister Sugiono for Indonesia’s support for the Board of Peace as a founding member, as well as for its commitment to post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza.
