Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Iskandar, affirmed that Indonesia does not condone inter-state colonisation.

MUI met with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia, Faisal Abdullah Al Amoudi, at his residence in Jakarta on Thursday evening (16/4) to discuss various issues, including developments in the Middle East region.

“Indonesia is a country that does not condone colonisation because it violates the principles of international relations and human rights,” said Anwar.

He hoped that the values of brotherhood and the strength of the Muslim community could be realised in collective life.

“In essence, we are all brothers, so these values are expected to be reflected in our shared life,” he stated.

Anwar also emphasised the importance of stopping warfare, as conflicts only bring negative impacts and exacerbate the suffering of the people.

“Taking human lives is strictly prohibited in religious teachings. Therefore, warfare must be stopped immediately,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Faisal appreciated MUI’s stance on the conflict in the region.

“Certainly, MUI’s position is unquestionable, always standing alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Indonesia is a country with a Muslim majority, while Saudi Arabia is the place where revelation descended and the location of the holy cities,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Marwan Dasopang.

From MUI, those present included Deputy General Chairman Cholil Nafis, General Secretary Amirsyah Tambunan, General Treasurer Misbahul Ulum, and Chairman of the Fatwa Division Asrorun Ni’am Sholeh.
