Meeting Putin, Prabowo Consults on Geopolitical Uncertainties

President Prabowo Subianto met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to consult on the global geopolitical situation. Prabowo conveyed the purpose of his visit during the bilateral meeting at the Kremlin Palace, Moscow, on Monday, 13 April 2026.

Prabowo initially expressed appreciation to Putin for Russia’s support towards Indonesia. “Then, Your Excellency, I have also come to consult because the world’s geopolitical situation is undergoing very rapid developments and changes,” Prabowo stated to Putin at the Kremlin Palace, Moscow, Russia, on Monday, as quoted from the live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube.

Prabowo assessed that Russia plays an important role in the global context. Therefore, Indonesia requires views and input from Russia. “We view that Russia has played a very positive role in facing this geopolitical situation full of uncertainties,” Prabowo stated.

Furthermore, the Head of State stated that the two countries need to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Areas of cooperation that are of particular attention include the economic and energy sectors.

“We feel it is very necessary to consult on how we face the future situation and especially if we can continue to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy and energy,” Prabowo said.

On that occasion, Prabowo conveyed his thanks to the Russian Government for the support provided to Indonesia. One of them is in the process of Indonesia’s acceptance as a BRICS member, which he said proceeded quickly.

For Prabowo, Russia has also provided support for various important needs of Indonesia in several strategic fields. “In several matters that are very important to Indonesia, President Putin has supported and provided support for Indonesia’s needs,” Prabowo stated.
